Argentine president Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear, son of the first mayor of Buenos Aires and grandson of the second Supreme Director of the United Provinces of Rio de la Plata, was born on October 4, 1868 and ruled the country between the years 1922 and 1928. Here he is photographed at the beach during a vacation in Mar del Plata in 1927.
